About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Credit Director to join our team at Scotiabank. As a key member of our Commercial Banking group, you will be responsible for contributing to the quality of our Commercial Credit portfolio in an assigned geographic area, while ensuring its profitable growth and efficient maintenance at an acceptable level of risk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Portfolio Oversight: Ensure credit applications are adjudicated promptly, within our risk selection parameters, and maintain assigned portfolio quality by overseeing trends in risk rating migration and credit conditions.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise team members and be responsible for the overall efficiency of the team, reflected in minimal turnaround times and staffing levels. Provide coaching, direction, and guidance to direct reports on credit and other matters when required.
  • Business Partnerships: Manage partnerships and liaise with business partners in Commercial Banking and other business lines to maintain open communication and ensure good service levels are achieved and maintained to internal customers.
  • Training and Development: Contribute to the development of our commercial human resources by identifying training needs and ensuring individual coaching and group coaching is provided to Commercial Banking and Global Risk Management team members.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and contribute to driving continuous improvement at the Bank by identifying policy and process fixes and enhancements, and drive the development, acceptance, and execution of efficient and effective solutions.

Requirements:

  • Commercial Banking Expertise: Thorough understanding of Commercial Banking and the Bank's credit policies and procedures.
  • Financial Analysis: Expert understanding of Bank lending policies and procedures, financial analysis, risk assessment techniques, credit structuring, collateral and security documentation and registration, collection, related legislation, and accounting practices.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills as demonstrated by the management of a team of adjudicators.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to converse effectively with line and corporate personnel.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to make decisions, frequently in the face of uncertainty, and clearly communicate rationale for decisions.
  • Collaboration: Resourcefulness, resiliency, tenacity, and a high degree of collaboration are desirable attributes.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual (French/English) verbal and written is required for the role.
