We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Worker to join our team at The Salvation Army Ottawa Booth Centre. As a Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for providing maintenance services to our premises, ensuring they are safe and secure for our clients and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including preventative maintenance schedules and responding to maintenance requests from management.
- Conduct general repairs, such as patching, painting, plumbing, and replacing light bulbs, without requiring certification.
- Perform weekly building inspections and troubleshoot issues prior to escalating to management.
- Ensure all premises are maintained in a safe and secure condition, adhering to health and safety policies and procedures.
- Operate and maintain vehicles, including daily vehicle checks and completing forms.
- Assist with shipping and receiving goods through the dock, moving goods to and from the shipping dock, and loading 3rd party trucks with goods leaving the building.
- Ensure all safety and security systems, including fire detection systems, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and security systems, are properly maintained.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current WHMIS training.
- 1-3 years of recent general maintenance experience, preferably with an organization that works with the marginalized population.
- Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and a current copy of a Driver's abstract for review and verification.
- Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, and painting, as well as health and safety regulations, fire codes, and PPE required when working with tools and electrical equipment.
- Work in a warehouse and shelter environment, with regular exposure to the outdoors through all seasons.
- May encounter verbal abuse or deal with angry and abusive clients.
- Must be able to spend long periods of time on feet and perform tasks that require climbing, bending, twisting, crouching, reaching, and lifting.
