Director of Community Services

The City of New Westminster is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Community Services to lead our community-facing services and contribute to the City's economic development, cultural, conference service, and community partnership activities.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide strategic leadership and direction for community services, ensuring alignment with the City's strategic priorities and Council's vision.
- Lead a team of professionals in economic development, conference services, communications, public engagement, community partnerships, and arts and culture.
- Develop and implement policies, plans, and programs to promote economic development, community engagement, and cultural activities.
- Collaborate with external partners, stakeholders, and community groups to advance the City's interests and achieve its goals.
- Manage budgets, resources, and staff to ensure effective delivery of community services and economic development initiatives.
- Represent the City on various committees, boards, and advisory bodies, promoting the City's interests and building relationships with key stakeholders.
- Graduate degree in public administration, community development, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in leadership and administration, preferably in the public sector.
- Strong knowledge of local, provincial, and federal legislation and bylaws, including the Local Government Act and Community Charter.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism, with a focus on promoting reconciliation and decolonization efforts.
