Job Overview

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate with a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering or related fields. The successful candidate will have experience in R&D, specifically in pilot plant facilities, and a strong understanding of zeolite catalysis, catalyst characterization, and reactor system design.

The selected candidate will work under both Enerkem and the faculty member of the University of Alberta, contributing to the development of new process technologies. This opportunity includes a stipend of 52,500 CAD per year, plus benefits as applied under the UofA postdoctoral program office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop kinetic and reactor models using Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus, and other advanced process modeling tools;
  • Design and execute experiments, including bench/pilot reactor system fabrication and separation techniques;
  • Conduct research and contribute to the development of new process technologies for the clean energy sector;
  • Collaborate with the team to achieve project goals and milestones;
  • Evaluate technical and economic implications of novel process technologies.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering or related fields;
  • 3+ years of R&D experience in a pilot plant facility, preferably in the clean energy sector;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team/collaborative environment;
  • Strong understanding of zeolite catalysis, catalyst characterization, and reactor system design;
  • Experience with Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus, and other advanced process modeling tools;
  • Evidence of scientific accomplishment via peer-reviewed publications.

Benefits

The successful candidate will receive a stipend of 52,500 CAD per year, plus benefits as applied under the UofA postdoctoral program office. They will also have the opportunity to work directly under both Enerkem and the faculty member of the University of Alberta, contributing to the development of new process technologies.
