About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Infection Prevention and Control Specialist to join our team at Schlegel Villages. As an IPAC Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our residents, visitors, and team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement infection prevention and control protocols and procedures to minimize the risk of infection and outbreaks.
  • Provide education and training to Village Clinical Leaders, Team Members, and other stakeholders on infection prevention and control best practices.
  • Conduct surveillance activities, collect and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement, and implement control measures as required.
  • Liaise with Local Public Health Unit, IPAC hubs, and other related healthcare facilities to ensure compliance with provincial and federal infection control directives and guidelines.
  • Facilitate Community of Practice Meetings with IPAC Leads to share knowledge and best practices.
  • Perform quality improvement activities to ensure compliance with Schlegel Villages standards, policy, and practices, and legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain the IPAC Manual, including policies, procedures, education, and tools, to ensure it meets required standards.
  • Support the utilization of the quality improvement framework on clinical programs through program review, audits, and data analysis.
Requirements
  • Certified in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) and/or LTC CIC.
  • Member of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Canada.
  • Current registration and in good standing with a regulatory body in Ontario.
  • Completion of an entry-level 1 Infection Control course.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of infectious diseases, microbiology, epidemiology, and statistics.
  • Proficient in the use of computer databases, spreadsheets, Meditech, and literature search.
  • Have access to a reliable vehicle for travel to locations throughout Ontario.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in a health-related discipline (e.g., nursing, laboratory, epidemiology, and other allied health).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Self-directed, well-organized, and detail-oriented skills.
  • Knowledge and/or job-related experience in healthcare practices.
