Job Summary

Sinai Health is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team as a Urology Nurse Specialist. In this role, you will work collaboratively with our staff and physicians to provide exceptional patient care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with attending physicians to assist with patient clinics, chart preparation, and nursing duties such as catheterization, catheter care, pre and post-op surgery teaching, and other duties as directed.
  • Coordinate, deliver, supervise, and evaluate patient care, ensuring a high level of quality and safety.
  • Systematically assess patients' physical and psychosocial needs, identifying areas for improvement and developing effective care plans.
  • Assume responsibility for health education and counseling of patients, empowering them to take an active role in their care.
  • Assist patients and their families in identifying resources that lead to optimal health outcomes.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize patient care activities, ensuring timely and effective delivery of services.
  • Participate in the overall coordination of patient care, working collaboratively with the healthcare team to achieve optimal results.
  • Accurately and appropriately record patient information, using electronic charting systems.
  • Undertake triage responsibilities, including telephone triage, to ensure prompt and effective response to patient needs.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate a broad range of patient care activities related to health promotion and chronic disease management.
Requirements
  • Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • BScN degree (preferred).
  • Minimum of three years recent urology, urologic, and oncology patient nursing experience.
  • Excellent teaching skills, incorporating adult learning principles.
  • Flexible with superior organization skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, making decisions and taking initiative while working with confidential patient information and responding to patient inquiries.
  • Superior work ethic, professionalism, and reliability; excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to effectively convey factual information and detailed explanations.
  • Sound knowledge base in urology, urologic procedures, surgeries, and patient care.
  • Commitment to professional practice and personal development.
  • Commitment to shared leadership and team-based decision making.
  • Commitment to patient and family-centered care.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history.
