Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our team at SGI. As an Insurance Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating and assessing insurance risks, determining premiums, and developing relationships with brokers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and assess insurance risks for personal lines insurance products, including auto insurance.
  • Determine premiums and ensure that they are in line with company guidelines and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers to build lasting and profitable relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to discuss risk acceptance and policy wording interpretation.
  • Mentor and provide direction to staff in less senior positions.
  • Identify improvements to processes, procedures, and insurance products.
Requirements
  • A two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study, such as Business, or defined equivalency.
  • 1-3 years' experience in underwriting.
  • Proficient knowledge of the coverages of insurance products and related provincial/federal legislation applicable to Personal Lines (Auto and Property).
  • Proficient knowledge of the Principles & Practices of Insurance.
  • Proficient knowledge and skill of the interpretation, procedures, rating, and application of established criteria and determine appropriate premium, coverages, and deductibles for insurance products.
