destinationone Consulting is seeking a Director of Development and Engineering to join the City of Maple Ridge, BC team.


Job Summary:


The successful candidate will lead the Development and Engineering department, overseeing the review of plans for subdivisions and other developments for engineering plans, standards, and requirements. This role requires a strong leader who can motivate and inspire staff, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with legislation and policies.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead the Development and Engineering team, including supervising staff and managing budgets.
  • Review and direct the review of plans and designs submitted for subdivisions, rezoning, development permits, and building permits.
  • Ensure compliance with municipal servicing plans, standards, and specifications.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for Development and Engineering.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination with other departments and external agencies.
  • Provide policy advice to the Municipal Engineer and Council on related issues.

Requirements:


Education and Experience:


A university degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, plus a minimum of five years of municipal-related engineering experience at a supervisory level or higher.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Thorough knowledge of building codes and applicable bylaws.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan, assign, supervise, evaluate work of team members.

Licences and Certificates:



  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGBC.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.

Working Hours:



  • 80 hours bi-weekly.
