The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for evaluating, assessing, and improving the design of existing residential, commercial, and industrial buildings for building owners and operators. As a member of the Building Science and Restoration Team, the successful candidate will be comfortable dealing with clients, communicating with contractors, and working on active construction sites.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage projects and clients from conceptual design to final completion
- Conduct site investigations and evaluations of existing buildings
- Develop retrofit programs and recommend project concepts to clients
- Design and analyze existing building components, upgrades, and improvements
- Prepare reports and studies
- Prepare electrical drawings and specifications
- Design building systems in accordance with office standards, municipal or provincial building codes, and other applicable standards
- Check layouts and services for continuity; develop various electrical systems layouts in coordination with structural, architectural, and mechanical components of the building
- Develop lighting layouts and coordinate with other disciplines
- Develop power distribution layouts and sizing, as well as layouts of electrical/switch/transformer rooms
- Perform electrical load calculations for base building projects
- Respond to internal and external communication regarding design status
- Liaise with project consultants; coordinate design requirements with all disciplines and supervise drawings between other disciplines; check layouts of electrical services for interferences with other components of the building
- Design electrical building systems directly in Revit/CAD; adhere to company BIM/CAD standards
- Coordinate with other engineering and architectural disciplines
- Administer contracts and review construction while implementing retrofit work
- Mentor and train junior staff
- Market and solicit work from new and existing clients
- Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited university
- Registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
- 5-8 years of electrical engineering experience
- Supervision of 2 or 3 junior engineers/engineering interns/technologists
- Committed to client service and technical excellence
- Ability to conceptualize design with an understanding of constructability
- Team player with ability to work independently with minimum direction
- Familiarity with systems such as electrical distribution, fire alarm, lighting, security, communication, and/or audio-visual systems
- Familiarity with lighting calculations and ability to perform such calculations
- Familiarity with structural, architectural, and mechanical models to appreciate space limitations and interferences
- Highly innovative and motivated with an attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively with both internal and external clients
- Able to work independently, as well as contribute to the team
- Strong attention to detail and produce error-free, high-quality work
- Demonstrated effective communication skills
- Able to interact professionally with all levels of business personnel and build strong working relationships
- Proven leadership skills
- Exceptional organizational, time-management, and project management skills
