Ottawa-based Protak Consulting Group, Inc. is currently seeking a highly skilled GIS System Architect for a new on-site government project.

This is a contract opportunity that requires the selected candidate to work full-time within Canada.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to gather information and discuss priority requirements within five days of contract commencement;
  • Providing technical expertise to GIS projects, ensuring operational excellence and analytical rigor;
  • Creating and delivering presentations to senior management and project teams to explain recommended solutions for deployment in cloud-based architecture;
  • Offering enterprise GIS architecture advice and recommendations for both on-premise and cloud-based systems;
  • Developing project documentation, specifications, and contributing to implementation planning;
  • Responding to and resolving incidents from creation to resolution as they occur;
  • Preparing project documentation describing application solutions;
  • Concept of Operations document;
  • Project Specifications and Standards;
  • Scripts and templates for application deployment and automation procedures;
  • Presenting draft and final cloud-based solutions for review and approval;
  • Maintaining monthly progress reports detailing deliverables' status.

This role demands a Level of Effort equivalent to 230 working days per year, with payment tied to actual worked days, excluding annual leave, statutory holidays, and sick leave. The initial one-year contract may extend up to three years.

The language of work is English – Fluent/Advanced (Written, Spoken, Comprehension).

Work must be performed within Canada, with possible on-site reporting in Ottawa.

Key Qualifications:

  • A University degree or College diploma related to Geomatics, GIS, Geography, or another relevant field is required;
  • Professional certifications in Geomatics or GIS systems are an asset.

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience as a GIS System Architect is mandatory, representing a Senior-level position;
  • The selected candidate must have completed at least two non-concurrent GIS System Architect projects involving designing, implementing, and operational handover using ESRI Enterprise GIS software within the last 60 months;
  • Experience as a GIS System Architect utilizing commercial solutions other than ESRI products, such as GeoCortex, FME, CARIS, GeoMedia, MapInfo, Oracle Spatial, QGIS, GeoServer, GeoNetwork, PostGIS, and OpenLayers, is necessary;
  • Leading GIS architecture solutions projects as a Lead Architect is also required;
  • At least 60 months' experience within the last 10 years in IT project experience, Project Management, GIS web application design, Relational database architecture and design, GIS solutions development (on premise), and GIS solutions development (in Cloud) is essential;
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience within the last 15 years providing architecture services, including designing, implementing, and operational handover for GIS projects, is necessary;
  • A minimum security clearance level of Reliability Status is strictly required. Please note: If you do not already hold an active valid security clearance, your application will not be considered. This contract requirement is imminent and cannot be delayed by the security clearance process.
