Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Supervisor to join our team at GFL Environmental. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and coordinating all aspects of the Brampton laboratory, ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct the work of the laboratory team
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and coordinate re-supply requests
  • Update job process status in the internal database
  • Identify and recommend improvements to processes and procedures
  • Troubleshoot issues with laboratory instrumentation
  • Complete documentation related to provincial and federal regulations
  • Assist with discrepancies of incoming and outgoing materials
  • Review analytical reports and ensure compliance with disposal site parameters
  • Prepare reports summarizing laboratory work volumes and results
  • Ensure departmental controls, procedures, and accountability for safety, environment, and regulatory compliance
  • Provide training to new employees
  • Act as coach/mentor to develop staff technical knowledge and capabilities
  • Assist with staff discipline, training, and performance evaluation
  • Monitor and maintain staff training records
  • Report analytical results and coordinate with production personnel
  • Assist with waste material classification
  • Supervise general laboratory housekeeping duties
  • Complete certificates of disposal and summaries of analyses as required
Requirements
  • 5+ years of progressive relevant laboratory experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Degree in chemistry (advanced degree preferred)
  • Extensive knowledge of analytical instrumentation, including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy
  • Extensive knowledge of TDG, Ontario Reg. 347, and Ontario Health and Safety Act
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Superior organizational and people management skills
  • Flexible to work extended hours
  • Emergency response availability, including evenings and weekends
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to utilize required personal protective equipment
  • Able to work outdoors, exposed to ambient weather conditions
  • Valid G License with a good driver abstract/CVOR abstract
