Establish yourself as a key player in the research community at University Health Network, where innovation and excellence converge. Our Laboratory Research Specialist will be responsible for performing pathology testing for research purposes according to established procedures.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work under the direction of our operational supervisor/manager, contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge and improving patient care.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in histopathology research and clinical experience, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tissue processing, embedding & microtomy of clinical/animal tissue
  • Routine and specialized staining histological staining
  • Routine and specialized immunohistochemical staining
  • Developing and optimizing new antibodies for research purposes
  • In-situ hybridization
  • Liaising with research & client services to ensure delivery of services
  • Providing input on workflow optimization
  • Documenting results according to established procedures
  • Maintaining laboratory and laboratory equipment
  • Liaising with external vendors/clients
  • Coordinating and/or planning activities of other technicians (scheduling, workflow design, prioritization etc.)
  • Assisting with financial and budget management
  • May give presentations and seminars

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required, CMLTO certified Medical Laboratory Technologist and Masters Degree required
  • 8 years related experience, or 10 years experience with Bachelors Degree
  • 6 years of recent histopathology research/clinical experience preferred
  • 6 years of recent experience performing microtomy & cryosectioning preferred
  • 6 years of recent experience with immunohistochemistry & molecular diagnostics techniques preferred
  • 6 years of recent experience managing laboratory safety and quality assurance preferred
