Forestry Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Forestry Specialist to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As an Old-Growth Forester, you will play a critical role in supporting the Old-Growth Forest Policy and contributing to the conservation and protection of Nova Scotia's natural resources.
Key Responsibilities- Lead field data collection on old-growth forest, statistical data analysis, and research report writing.
- Use technical skills with ArcPro to support department field data collection and reporting.
- Maintain data standards, currency, and integrity, ensuring spatial and attribute accuracy and consistency.
- Provide quality control and assurance on digital data and prepare cartographic or other derived products as required.
- Communicate and coordinate with colleagues regarding work quality, process, and progress.
- Bachelor's degree in forestry or master's degree in forestry, with 1 year of related experience.
- Training or experience in forest ecosystems, forest mensuration, and tree identification.
- Experience in Nova Scotia Forest Ecosystem Classification (FEC).
- Experience with ArcGIS or ArcPro.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Working ConditionsTravel is required throughout the province, including field work in rough terrain. You may be required to use helicopter, ATV, snowmobile, or boat to access remote areas. Infrequent overnight travel nationally may be required for meetings and conferences.
