The Ministry of Health is building a more resilient and sustainable health care system that can support Albertans getting care when and where they need it. The ministry supports Albertans' health and well-being throughout their lives by protecting public health and promoting wellness; coordinating and delivering safe, person-centered, quality health services; planning capital infrastructure; supporting innovative information management and technologies; regulating health care; and funding the health system.

The Indigenous Health Division – Indigenous Health Policy and Planning Branch has an opening for a Senior Indigenous MAPS Specialist. The successful candidate will provide leadership, strategic advice, and knowledge/skill transfer to the Branch, as well as internal ministry/Alberta government, and external teams regarding all work of the Branch, particularly impacting Indigenous peoples' health, and the Indigenous MAPS initiative.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and support strategic projects and initiatives associated with the Indigenous MAPS initiative at the broader system level.
  • Conduct analysis to identify and develop proposals, discussion papers, briefing notes, and provide strategic advice to address trends, issues, and challenges impacting Indigenous peoples' access to primary health care services.
  • Support larger policy development teams, including collaboration and coordination responsibilities.
  • Undertake project management responsibilities and lead implementation on complex and multi-stakeholder projects.
Qualifications

To be considered for the Senior Indigenous MAPS Specialist position, you must:

  • Hold a university degree (4 years) in a related field (e.g. Health, Public, or Business Administration, Indigenous Relations, Political Science, Commerce, or related discipline).
  • Have a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience (includes experience with human resources management, budget, and forecasting).
  • Have a minimum of 5 years working with Indigenous peoples.

In addition to the above requirements, you must have experience with:

  • Strategic planning, policy development, and/or working through the legislative process.
  • Applying federal and provincial legislation and policies impacting Indigenous peoples.
  • In-depth knowledge of health system priorities, primary care delivery, and issues within the political, economic, and global environment.

For this position, the following will be considered assets:

  • Experience working in a First Nation, Métis, or Inuit community organization or similar environment.
  • Experience working within legislation that governs Indigenous health.
