Job Summary:

This part-time Lab Patient Technician role is responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients to preparing specimens for transportation. You will be working closely with patients and clients, ensuring they have followed necessary test protocols prior to specimen collection. This is an important role in patient care and our business, allowing you to make a meaningful impact on Canadians' lives every day.

Key Responsibilities:

- Greet patients, request required information, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure compliance with test protocol.
- Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and conduct ECG tracings as required.
- Collect special tests such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
- Maintain client relationships, respond to inquiries, and follow up on requests.
- Complete data entry for patient demographics, requisition information, and other relevant details related to processing test results.
- Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

- Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
- Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills are essential for interacting with patients and clients.
- Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm are required.
- Strong customer service skills, empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem-solving skills are necessary for success in this role.
- Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.

Salary:

The estimated annual salary for this position is between $50,000 - $60,000, depending on qualifications and location. The hourly wage ranges from $24.02 to $28.05. LifeLabs offers a competitive compensation package, including benefits and opportunities for professional development.
