Geriatric Psychiatrist Opportunity

We are seeking a part-time Geriatric Psychiatrist to join our team in providing consultation to patients and their families/caregivers, primary care physicians, and fellow health care professionals in various settings.

The successful candidate will provide leadership and clinical expertise to our Geriatric Consultation-Liaison team, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality care to complex patients.

As a Geriatric Psychiatrist, you will have the opportunity to expand your practice interests by providing consultation to remote areas on Vancouver Island through our NITAOP program, serving special populations including First Nations.

You will participate in clinical service, teaching, and ongoing program development as part of our Island-wide Dementia Strategy, including the newly-opened MINT clinic, conjointly with Geriatric Medicine.

Participation in the NRGH General Psychiatry call rotation is a requirement of this position, with a commitment of approximately 1 in 11.

Involvement in the Island Medical Program undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program is encouraged, with a University of B.C. affiliated appointment and membership in the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry available.

Office space, administrative support, telephone, fax, and email are provided by VIHA at no cost, with the option to share office space.

We offer the opportunity to combine this part-time position with other available part-time positions to create a rewarding and diverse full-time Psychiatry practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultation to patients and their families/caregivers, primary care physicians, and fellow health care professionals
  • Lead and provide clinical expertise to the Geriatric Consultation-Liaison team
  • Participate in clinical service, teaching, and ongoing program development
  • Participate in the NRGH General Psychiatry call rotation
  • Involve in the Island Medical Program undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program

Requirements:

  • Eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC
  • Eligible for membership in Canadian Association of Geriatric Psychiatry (mandatory)
  • Fellowship is considered an asset, but not required
