About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at The Alex, a leading provider of healthcare services in Calgary. As a LPN, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and supporting our mission to improve quality of life through accessible and integrated health, housing, and social services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct client care and treatment, working independently to manage and triage patients as directed by clinic protocol.
  • Conduct initial assessments of new clients for acceptance into our care streams and assess and treat minor wounds and provide routine medical procedures.
  • Manage and administer medications in all available formats and assist patients to Specialist appointments and diagnostic imaging appointments.
  • Work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to support the provision of care at our clinics and assist in data collection and entry as required.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Nursing and current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses in Alberta (CLPNA).
  • Minimum of two years progressive nursing experience working with elderly clients who live with mental health and addictions disorders, experience homelessness, and/or live in poverty.
  • Completion of the Immunization module by CLPNA or Immunization Certificate and passion for working with vulnerable seniors, complex care, and inner-city medicine.
  • Strong skills in health promotion and illness prevention, time management, and ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training, Trauma Informed Care training, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, or naloxone administration an asset.
Work Environment and Hours

This is a casual position with varied shifts between 08:30 and 18:00, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends depending on clinic need. You will work throughout all Alex clinics, including the Main Alex Building, Seniors Health Clinic, and Mobile locations.

Working Conditions

This position requires frontline staff to be exposed to emotionally disturbing events, such as medical distress, threatened/actual serious injury, violence, abuse, and death. You will work in a fast-paced environment and be required to multi-task, with occasional physical actions requiring the ability to bend/crouch, reach above shoulder height, kneel/crawl, and carry objects (up to 20 Ibs.) throughout the shift.
