Job Summary

This position serves to provide leadership in planning, devising, maintaining and implementing a high-quality standard of operation by assuring the competent delivery of all services for our facility. Responsible for providing leadership in the definition of the goals, strategies and is generally accountable for the overall direction, coordination and delivery of all services for the facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals dedicated to providing leading care to our residents.
  • Responsible for providing leadership, direction and organization of the facility in support of the vision, mission and values of Health Association Nova Scotia.
  • Responsible to report to the accountabilities set forth by Central Office and the Governance Body as the head of the on-site management structure.
  • Responsible for the successful integration and adherence to the approved organizational structure and maintain an effective administrative model in accordance with the operational requirements of the facility.
  • Provide strategic leadership and demonstrates excellent delegation abilities to navigate the workforce to provide the highest quality of care and support to the residents.
  • Operate the facility according to applicable Federal, Provincial, and Municipal guidelines and regulations.
  • Responsible to insure appropriate compliance and due diligence with regards to all of the facility's legal requirements and obligations.
  • Responsible for making key decisions and establishing and contributing to the achievements and goals of the health and wellness of the facility and the employees.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, facilitating change management, promoting team development, teamwork and coordinating staffing and clinical work as identified by the Administrator or other key stakeholders within the organization.
  • Collaborate with all support positions and direct care providers to ensure that clients receive quality care in a safe, competent and ethical manner.
  • Coordinate the facility's professional and contractual relationship with all of its principles including the Department of Health, the Department of Veteran's Affairs and the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation.
  • Navigate the workforce, in consultation with the Director of Human Resources, the site lead is responsible for the initiation of workplace investigations, required disciplinary action, adherence to employment contracts, collective agreements, or service agreements for the facility.
  • Responsible for the overall performance management program for the facility and accountability of their direct reports in completion of annual performance review requirements as outlined by the organization.
  • Responsible for the follow up and accountability of all licensing, accreditation or internal follow up activities requiring completion at the facility.
  • Responsible for overall site responsibilities including financial, staffing, resident care, ethics, and daily operational requirements.
  • Monitors and Supports the Return to Work Program for the facility in liaison with the Director of Corporate Services & Human Resources.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of senior level managerial experience is required including management of direct / indirect reports.
  • Managerial experience in Long-Term Care preferred, but acceptable experience in other professions will be strongly considered.
  • Minimum of 7 years supervisory experience required.
  • Background in Health Administration would be considered an asset.
  • Self-motivated and display initiative in resolving problems relating to overall operation of Facility.
  • Above average inter-personal skills, capable of exercising tact and diplomacy with all levels of Personnel and Residents within the work environment and support the team concept in operating the Home.
  • Knowledge in current management practices including personnel management, policy implementation and budget management are necessary skills for this position.
  • Familiarity with operations practices and procedures including health and safety; occupational health and safety; staff performance management, Human Resources; problem solving.
  • Familiarity with applicable statutory or regulatory code requirements; and knowledge of facility emergency procedures are essential abilities required for this position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of office and accounting procedures.
  • Ability to give and take direction and to interface with others in a professional manner.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment with sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a variety of diverse individuals both inside and outside of the organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to focus and follow through to completion of projects.
  • Exhibits professionalism and team orientation.
