Job Summary:

The University of Toronto is seeking a skilled Control Systems Technician to join its facilities team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for maintaining, installing, troubleshooting, and calibrating control systems and life/safety monitoring systems in the university's buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and test control systems and life/safety monitoring systems to diagnose faults and resolve breakdowns;
  • Repair, maintain, calibrate, adjust, and install measuring and control instrumentation;
  • Install new BAS instrumentation equipment on existing running systems;
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance work on control equipment, including instrument replacement;
  • Update DDC/DCS programs from sequence narratives;
  • Work with the Working Supervisor and Building Operating Engineers to establish new or better means of controlling temperatures and humidity in buildings and experimental labs as required;
  • Maintain or revise maintenance procedures for newly installed equipment or instruments used for testing, measuring, monitoring, and controlling flows, levels, pressures, temperatures, and other variables.

Requirements:

  • Diploma from a recognized Ontario technical college as an Instrumentation Technician or Building Environmental Systems;
  • Minimum of 5 years' practical experience in the programming, maintenance, installation, troubleshooting of DDC and Building automation control systems, as well as pneumatic, electromechanical, electronic, and programmable controllers related to building HVAC;
  • Strong communication skills in English (written/oral), with the ability to work in a structured team environment;
  • Personal computer skills in Windows, Word, Excel, Email, and programming knowledge in Siemens (Apogee), Honeywell (Comfort point-EBI), and Johnson Control (Metasys – CCT, SCT, GX9100, HVAC Pro).
