Job Summary

The Controls Technician is a key member of our team at Tiercon Corp., responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical control systems in an industrial setting.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain, improve, and repair equipment, diagnosing and testing PLC and instrumentation problems to ensure optimal functioning of machinery and equipment used in manufacturing and production processes.
  • Ability to make changes to PLC programs, read and write PLC logic across multiple versions, and possess a strong working knowledge of Allen Bradley software, as well as the ability to create and edit HMI screens.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical control systems, including PLCs, VFDs, and HMIs, and perform preventive, corrective, planned, or breakdown maintenance and calibration on equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation for existing and new equipment, control, and building power system installations, and interpret electrical schematics and control circuit diagrams to diagnose issues and ensure proper installation.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate new control systems and update existing ones, and work independently in troubleshooting and repair problems with Programmable Logic Controllers and related components when required.
  • Assist with system startups and operational checkouts on systems, including configuration, wiring, calibration, grounding, and power testing, and diagnose the cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of equipment or systems, repairing or replacing defective components.
  • Experienced in the use of electrical diagnostic equipment, such as multimeters, amp clamps, and meggers, to test electrical circuits and components to locate shorts, faulty connections, and defective parts, and replace or repair as needed.
  • Interface with equipment operators and maintenance staff to ascertain problems with equipment, and must read and interpret electrical and electronic drawings, schematics, blueprints, engineering drawings, and sketches to determine problems and make appropriate repairs.
  • Utilize technical materials, such as equipment manuals, MSDS, safety materials, system drawings, Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), schematics, and blueprints, to troubleshoot and maintain systems, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited electrician apprenticeship program, or associate's degree or college diploma in electrical technology (or equivalent) or electrical engineering required.
  • Relevant certifications, such as a journeyman license, are preferred: 309a or 442a.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and CAD, root cause analysis, general mathematics, problem-solving, self-motivation, decision-making, blueprint reading, training abilities, communication, performance and department management, prioritizing tasks, root cause analysis, utilizing computer programs to support activities, and strong mechanical assembly.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an electrician in an industrial or manufacturing environment, proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and control diagrams.
