We are offering a competitive salary of approximately $120,000 per annum for this exciting opportunity.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting assigned files to professional standards and in accordance with the policies and procedures of Legal Aid Saskatchewan & the Law Society of Saskatchewan. This will include conducting preliminary inquiries, pre-trials, case conferences, trials, reviews & appeals, negotiating competent resolutions of files to achieve fair, early and lasting outcomes for clients, and representing clients at bail hearings, guilty pleas and remands both in-person and remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Preliminary Inquiries and Pre-Trials: Conduct thorough investigations to determine the facts of each case and negotiate resolutions that meet the client's needs.
- Case Conferences and Trials: Present cases to the court, advocating on behalf of our clients to ensure their rights are protected and justice is served.
- Negotiation and Resolution: Work with opposing parties to reach mutually beneficial agreements, resolving cases efficiently and effectively.
- Court Representation: Represent clients at bail hearings, guilty pleas, and remands, ensuring they receive fair treatment and representation throughout the process.
Requirements
- Law Degree: A law degree from a recognized law school is required, along with a valid driver's license and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
- Criminal Law Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in criminal law is necessary, with a strong understanding of the complexities of the law and its application.
- Technological Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, web-based legal research tools, and other relevant technologies is essential.
- Social Justice Commitment: A demonstrated commitment to social justice and an understanding of the needs and challenges faced by low-income and marginalized communities is required.
- Time Management and Prioritization: Strong time management and prioritization skills are necessary to handle multiple cases and deadlines efficiently.
