Automation Specialist Job Description

Ivaco Rolling Mills, a world-class steel producer, is seeking an experienced Automation Specialist to join its Steel Plant Team. Reporting to the Automation Engineer Lead, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, developing, and commissioning new automation systems, as well as troubleshooting and maintaining existing automation equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain good working order of critical plant servers in conjunction with IT support.
  • Provide technical support for various automation equipment, including PLCs, scale indicators, sensors, and meters.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain supervisory and S.C.A.D.A/HMI systems, recipe systems, tracking systems, and data collection systems.
  • Integrate new automation equipment and systems into the current production environment.
  • Support the plant during normal operations and planned shutdowns.
  • Document existing and new automation systems.
  • Keep up to date on all critical automation systems to diagnose system failures.
  • Program, implement, and maintain automation systems with various languages, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data and reports for productions, QA, and other departments.
  • Stay current on new computer technology and production processes and apply them to improve existing systems.
  • Work with users and system administrators during installation phase and provide training as required.
  • Train employees, such as electricians, on automation systems.
  • Review software and hardware problems with operators and other users and provide ongoing technical assistance regarding automation systems.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or an associated degree that can obtain a P.Eng (preferred) or a Technology technical degree from an accredited college or better.
  • Exposure to PLCs: programming, troubleshooting.
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (GE Cimplicity, WinCC from Siemens).
  • Knowledge in networking, IT infrastructure, servers, and computer hardware.
  • Skills in programming languages such as C++, C#, scripting or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server and T-SQL language.
  • Bilingual: English and French (oral and written) (preferred).
