Automation Specialist Job Description

Ivaco Rolling Mills, a world-class steel producer, is seeking an experienced Automation Specialist to join its Steel Plant Team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, developing, and commissioning new automation systems, as well as troubleshooting and maintaining existing ones. This includes software, PLCs, hardware, and Level 2 process control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the good working order of critical plant servers in conjunction with IT support.
  • Provide technical support for various automation equipment, including PLCs, scale indicators, sensors, and meters.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain supervisory and S.C.A.D.A/HMI systems, recipe systems, tracking systems, and data collection systems.
  • Integrate new automation equipment and systems into the current production environment.
  • Support the plant during normal operations and planned shutdowns.
  • Document existing and new automation systems.
  • Stay up-to-date on critical automation systems to diagnose system failures.
  • Program, implement, and maintain automation systems with various languages, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Keep current on new computer technology and production processes to improve existing systems.
  • Work with users and system administrators during installation and provide training as required.
  • Train employees on automation systems, including electricians.
  • Review software and hardware problems with operators and provide ongoing technical assistance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field (P.Eng preferred) or a technology technical degree from an accredited college.
  • Experience with PLCs, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of HMI/SCADA systems (GE Cimplicity, WinCC from Siemens).
  • Skills in programming languages such as C++, C#, scripting, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server and T-SQL language.
  • Bilingual: English and French (oral and written) preferred.
