Teaching Opportunity at Nuu-chah-nulth/Coast Salish

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Teacher to join our dynamic team in North Vancouver. As an Elementary Education Specialist, you will play a vital role in delivering educational services to the Squamish community, adhering to the philosophy, goals, and mission statement of Xwemel'ch'stn Etsímxwawtxw.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and monitor educational services that align with the Squamish Nation's educational philosophy and goals.
  • Operate with the highest level of confidentiality and maintain expert-level knowledge in implementing elementary education strategies and programs.
  • Teach elementary grades, with the possibility of teaching other primary/intermediate grades within the Elementary program.
  • Use a student-focused approach to support the full inclusion of all learners.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of curriculum and influence instruction, assessment, and social-emotional learning practices within a collaborative environment.
  • Implement effective strategies to engage and support academic success for all learners in an inclusive environment.
  • Design and apply various assessment techniques to measure and monitor student progress.
  • Participate in professional development to learn and implement new methodologies and strategies to provide a creative, engaged, and inclusive classroom experience.
  • Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to enhance the school as a learning community.
  • Adhere to workplace health & safety policies, safe work practices, and procedures.
  • Participate as a member of the Capilano Little Ones and Education, Employment & Training Team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education or a relevant/related degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Valid BC Teaching Certificate.
  • Ability to learn and speak introductory words/phrases in the Squamish language within a set timeframe.
  • Knowledge of Squamish Nation culture and language is an asset.
  • Experience working with special needs and gifted children is an asset.
  • Membership in the BC College of Teachers.
  • Valid Emergency First Aid & CPR - Industry certificate is preferred.
  • Valid BC Driver's License Class 4 or 5 is preferred.

What We Offer:

Compensation is based on North Vancouver School District's teacher salary grid.
