About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Intermediate Estimator to join our team in Nisku, Alberta. As an Intermediate Estimator, you will play a key role in the development of estimates for construction projects, working closely with our team of estimators and project managers.
Responsibilities
- Perform quantity, material, and labor takeoff from drawings, specifications, and related documents.
- Compile large spreadsheets and databases of bill of quantity data in the development of the estimate.
- Read and comprehend client documents, including a detailed understanding of multi-discipline scopes.
- Review quantity survey assignments with lead estimators or chief estimators.
- Apply productivity and material units and allowances to the estimate.
- Assist in developing work plans, crane pick plans, indirect support, etc.
- Document all information relating to the estimate and archive and organize such information to transfer to the project team upon successful award.
- On a fixed-price job, ensure that bid validity, escalation, and extra work terms meet project requirements.
- Solicit pricing from trade contractors and suppliers under the supervision of lead estimators.
- Attend preliminary site visits with more senior staff for mentoring.
- Develop and maintain strong customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Postsecondary degree or diploma in a related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
- 5 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating.
- Knowledge of the turnaround and maintenance industry; on-site experience or exposure to pressure vessel fabrication (hands-on or trade experience) required.
- Ability to work in a busy team environment.
- Attention to detail and the ability to creatively solve problems.
- Working knowledge of estimating software, advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite, and a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
- Ability to read isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings.
- Working knowledge of CAD software.
