Job Summary

Melloy Industrial Services Inc is seeking a skilled Construction Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our estimating department, you will be responsible for preparing detailed estimates for construction projects, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all aspects of the process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform quantity, material, and labor takeoff from drawings, specifications, and related documents.
  • Compile large spreadsheets and databases of bill of quantity data in the development of the estimate.
  • Read and comprehend client documents, including a detailed understanding of multi-discipline scopes.
  • Review quantity survey assignments with lead estimators or chief estimators.
  • Apply productivity and material units and allowances to the estimate.
  • Assist in developing work plans, crane pick plans, indirect support, etc.
  • Document all information relating to the estimate and archive and organize such information to transfer to the project team upon successful award.
  • On a fixed-price job, ensure that bid validity, escalation, and extra work terms meet project requirements.
  • Solicit pricing from trade contractors and suppliers under the supervision of lead estimators.
  • Attend preliminary site visits with more senior staff for mentoring.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in a related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
  • 5 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating, and 6 months of on-site experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry; on-site experience or exposure to construction (hands-on or trade experience) preferred.
  • Ability to work in a busy team environment.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to creatively solve problems.
  • Working knowledge of estimating software, advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite, and a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
  • Ability to read isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software.
