Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at the City of Victoria BC. As a key member of our People & Culture Department, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and implementation of our Health and Safety management system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct hazard assessments and provide guidance on effective control strategies to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Support incident investigation processes and provide recommendations to address root causes.
  • Prepare and review incident submissions to regulatory bodies and work with claims managers to ensure accurate documentation.
  • Support claims management processes and provide recommendations to improve recovery and return to work outcomes.
  • Analyze and summarize incident statistics and emerging trends to identify health and safety needs.
  • Conduct site visits and audits to identify potential gaps and prevent the development of hazards.
  • Develop and implement health and safety projects, including training and orientations, to promote a culture of health and safety.
  • Facilitate joint union-management meetings on health and safety matters.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on health and safety programs.
Requirements
  • Technical school diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (2 years)
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation or other equivalent certification
  • Current and valid Class 5 driver's license
  • 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week. The hourly rate is $52.96 per hour, Pay Grade 16. This is a CUPE Local 50 position.
