About the Position

The University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Israeli Studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will be appointed to either the Department of Political Science or the Department of Sociology, and hold a minority appointment in the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies. They will also be eligible to be named the Andrea and Charles Bronfman Chair in Israeli Studies, a five-year term renewable following a favourable review.

We seek candidates with a PhD degree in a social science discipline or related fields, with a research and teaching portfolio focused on modern Israel and Jewish Studies. They must demonstrate excellence in research and teaching, as well as experience in research supervision.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence, including high-impact publications, presentations at conferences, and distinguished awards. They must also demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and a strong teaching philosophy.

The successful candidate will strengthen the Faculty of Arts & Science's undergraduate and graduate education in the study of Israel. They will be expected to lead innovative and independent research, and contribute to the visibility and prominence of their discipline.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in a social science discipline or related fields
  • Research and teaching portfolio focused on modern Israel and Jewish Studies
  • Excellent research and teaching record
  • Experience in research supervision
