About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician to join our team at Holcim. As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the production, sales, and product development of our cement division.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Security:

  • Adhere to and promote safe laboratory practices.
  • Handle chemicals safely and in accordance with environmental standards.
  • Operate mechanical and laboratory equipment safely.

Laboratory Testing and Equipment:

  • Perform various analyses in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, CSA, and other methods.
  • Responsible for the use, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in inter-laboratory campaigns such as CCRL, RRT, and CSA.
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality assurance program.
  • Maintain the laboratory's storage area (may require operation of a forklift or pallet jack).

Experience and Education:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering, Chemistry, or relevant work experience.
  • Previous laboratory experience is desirable.
  • Demonstrate interest in analytical techniques.
  • Demonstrate interest in quality control and R&D analysis.

Technical Expertise:

  • Demonstrate good judgment and analytical skills.
  • Have good manual dexterity.
  • Perform calibration, maintenance, and repair of certain equipment.
  • Update certain procedures.
  • Familiarity with or interest in the following laboratory methods:
    • Compressive strength of mortars ASTM C
    • Resistance to sulfates ASTM C
    • Measuring shrinkage and expansion of mortars
    • Setting time (Vicat)
    • Fineness (Blaine and 45 um)
