Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Senior Financial Operations Analyst to join our Housing Services team at the Region of Peel. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders and contribute to the delivery of high-quality services to our community.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze financial statements and annual reports from service providers in the Region of Peel, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Prepare subsidy estimates and reconcile subsidy entitlements for service providers, using expertise in regional policies and funding guidelines.
- Analyze budget and year-end financial statements from service providers, identifying areas for improvement and making recommendations for financial action plans.
- Support the development of the Regional Human Services subsidy budget, working closely with stakeholders to ensure accurate forecasting and planning.
- Reconcile monthly subsidy and prepare accruals, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Collaborate with program teams to support the year-end provincial audit process and other program reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures, ensuring adequate internal controls and effective risk management.
- Provide financial support and advice to participants in the Human Services program and staff members, promoting excellent customer service and stakeholder engagement.
- Analyze and monitor financial performance of service providers, identifying trends and risks associated with insolvency or potential fraud.
- Evaluate funding shortfalls or surpluses, explaining causes and providing actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Prepare and analyze subsidy forecasts, using advanced analytical skills to inform decision-making.
Requirements
- A university degree in Business or Economics, or a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA) with a minimum of 3 years experience in an automated financial environment or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Lotus Notes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, planning, analytical, and administrative skills, with a focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and meeting deadlines.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical context.
