Biophysical Characterization and Developability Assessment Scientist

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist to join our team. As a key member of our drug discovery team, you will be responsible for leading the analytical and biophysical characterization of biotherapeutics, including antibodies, multispecifics, and antibody-drug conjugates. Your expertise will be critical in assessing the developability properties of lead molecules and providing protein science and biotherapeutic leadership within multidisciplinary drug discovery teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed characterization of antibodies, multispecifics, and antibody-drug conjugates using analytical and biophysical techniques such as UHPLC, CE, light scattering, DLS, MALS, DSC, and IEF.
- Assess the developability properties of lead molecules with formulation, stability studies, forced degradation, viscosity, and colloidal stability in support of lead selection and optimization.
- Analyze and interpret complex data sets, including analytical, biophysical, binding, and in silico assessments, to nominate lead candidate molecules to progress into clinical development.
- Provide protein science and biotherapeutic leadership within multidisciplinary drug discovery teams.
- Mentor and develop junior scientists within a dynamic team.
- Develop new and cutting-edge workflows for analytical and biophysical screening of antibody properties.
Requirements:
- PhD in Biophysics, Biochemistry, or Structural Biology, or a MSc degree plus 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience with analytical SEC, HIC, IEX, light scattering, CE-SDS, cIEF, DSF, DSC, mass spectrometry, or related techniques.
- Experience applying analytical techniques to assess protein sample quality and developability of biotherapeutics.
- Understanding of protein sequence and structure, as well as common modifications and physical and chemical stability risks.
- Passion for science, technology, and innovation.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team.
- Excellent decision-making and troubleshooting skills, as well as effective documentation and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
- Experience supporting preclinical development of biologics, particularly bi-/multispecific antibodies.
- Self-motivated and able to meet project goals under tight timelines.
What We Offer:
AbCellera offers a competitive salary range of CAD $75,200 - $94,000 annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution. You will also have a CAD $1,500 annual Active Lifestyle Allowance, annual vacation, and company-wide office closures.
