The Corporation of the City of Thunder Bay is seeking a Community Safety and Well-being Lead to join their team. This exciting opportunity will allow you to make a positive impact on the community by overseeing the implementation of the provincially mandated Community Safety and Well-being Plan.

About the Role

As a key member of the corporation's management team, you will be responsible for leading a team and working collaboratively with other community partners to deliver the corporation's objectives. Some of your key responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining relationships with local community groups, agencies, and boards, as well as coordinating resources to develop innovative programs, policies, and services to improve health and well-being in the city.

Key Accountabilities
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with diverse local community groups, agencies, and boards, other orders of government, and individuals to meet the objectives of the Community Safety and Well-being Plan;
  • Provide leadership and participate in a cross-corporate Strategies Network to cultivate opportunities for joint planning and decision making between members and other organizations which have a stake in addressing the social, environmental, and community determinants of well-being, and advancing the community and corporate strategies;
  • Establish and maintain strategic and collaborative relationships across the Corporation, and with external stakeholders, to support strategic policy development;
About the Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a degree in a political, social science, or humanities field, or similar related field, together with five years of progressively responsible management experience, or a diploma in a similar field, together with seven years of progressively responsible management experience.

They will also have in-depth knowledge and understanding of root causes of crime and addiction, social determinants of health, resilience, and capacity building for community safety, public health approaches to substance use, and upstream prevention.
