Digital Signal Processing Engineer – Intermediate

Macdonald, Dettwiler And Associates Corporation is seeking a skilled Digital Signal Processing Engineer – Intermediate to join our Satellite systems team in Montreal.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and documenting algorithms for electronic communication units, including modulators, demodulators, encoders/decoders, and regenerative space processors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Modifying, adapting, or conceiving algorithms based on DSP requirements.
- Implementing algorithms in tools such as Matlab or Simulink.
- Simulating and testing algorithms by injecting appropriate stimulus.
- Writing analysis scripts to evaluate the performance of simulation outputs.
- Adapting algorithms to be implementable by FPGA/ASIC engineers.
- Documenting the algorithms and test cases used for DSP requirements validation.
- Supporting lab investigations by defining test cases, stimuli, configurations, and analysis scripts.
- Reporting progress and potential issues to the lead DSP Engineer.
Requirements include:
- Electrical Engineering (EE) or equivalent Master degree (PhD is a plus).
- Minimum 5 years of experience designing simulation models for communication sub-systems.
- Knowledge of digital signal processing: FIR filters, IIR filters, multi-rate signal processing, correlation, FFT/IFFT, channelization methods.
- Knowledge of digital communication theory: carrier synchronization, symbol timing synchronization, channel modeling for impairments, modulation/demodulation, error control encoding/decoding techniques, beamforming, etc.
- Some knowledge of VHDL/Verilog coding, synthesis, verification, and related documentation.
- Some knowledge of fixed-point design.
- Proficient with Matlab/Simulink.
- Knowledge of Synplify, Modelsim, Xilinx Vivado, and Actel Designer.
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux environment and script languages (Python, CShell, Tcl).
- Knowledge of AMD/Xilinx Versal AI Engines is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English and ideally also in French.
- Knowledge of Version Control tools (SVN, GIT), Jira, and Confluence.
Security clearance and ITAR compliance are required for this position.
