Job Description:

The Director of Wellness Initiatives plays a pivotal role in promoting the health and well-being of the community. This involves developing and implementing wellness programs, managing funding agreements, and coordinating community health activities with other health professionals.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee wellness initiatives to promote well-being and health.
  • Manage funding agreements and contracts entered by GRFN that involve the Centre.
  • Act as a liaison on behalf of the Garden River Wellness Centre with government officials, Chief and Council, members of Garden River First Nations, the Public, and other organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, regulations, policies, and procedures, and contribute to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.
  • Supervise staff professional designation, licensing, and certification are kept up-to-date and in HR file.
  • Ensure ongoing professional development by attending workshops, seminars, and other relevant training.
  • Perform other related duties as may be required and assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Nursing, Counselling, or Social Work or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the health/social services setting, including 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience with LINK medical records database.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Strong ability to develop and work with budgets, lead a team of professionals, and deal with government agencies.
  • Understanding of indigenous cultural practices and their impact on health and wellness.
  • Demonstrated expertise in stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
  • Advocacy skills to address barriers and support clients effectively.
  • Knowledge and experience of First Nation culture, values, and traditions.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Valid class G driving license.
  • Criminal record check with vulnerable sector prior to employment.
