Job Summary:

The City of Edmonton seeks a skilled Communications Advisor to join their team. As a key member of the Office of the Chief Communications Officer, this temporary full-time position will play a crucial role in developing and implementing communication plans and products that support the organization's labour relations and collective bargaining portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement communication plans that progress through the collective bargaining process, as well as support contingency planning and business continuity.
  • Produce a wide range of communication materials for external and internal audiences, including social media, web content, news releases, and media responses.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information, working closely with subject matter experts, the bargaining team, and other related teams or committees to ensure message alignment, accuracy, and approvals.
  • Prepare media and social media monitoring reports, coordinate media responses and interviews, and provide additional support to ad hoc corporate issues in response to emerging matters.

Requirements:
  • University degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in a designated communications, journalism, crisis or emergency communications, public relations, public affairs, or public information position.

Desirable Skills:
  • Demonstrate experience and excellence in written communications skills.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of best practices, requirements of internal and external communications, mass communication, strategic communications planning, and labour relations or legal communication.
  • Demonstrate understanding of issues and/or crisis communications and media relations.
  • Demonstrate experience in working on communications involving complex or technical subject matter.
  • Extensive knowledge of communications principles, techniques, and practices.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong consulting skills.
  • Proven ability to establish effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrate commitment to ethical communication practice and confidentiality.

Work Environment:
  • This role requires the ability to work standard hours during regular operations, with the understanding that during activations of corporate contingency or crisis plans, you may need to work limited evenings and weekends.
  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite.

Salary and Benefits:
  • Up to $54.961 (Hourly); $114,758.57 (Annually).
