Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our team for a significant transit infrastructure project in Ontario. This 3-year greenfield project involves the construction of a state-of-the-art maintenance and storage facility, including potential geothermal systems and EV battery storage.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and improve accounting systems, methods, procedures, and internal controls to ensure efficient financial management.
- Prepare monthly work-in-progress reports, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and financial statements to provide accurate financial insights.
- Supervise and perform accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Manage personnel records and files to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Complete year-end documentation and collaborate with external auditors to ensure seamless audits.
- Prepare tax payments and manage worker's compensation, company benefits, and general liability insurance to mitigate risks.
- Oversee overhead items such as telephones and computer systems to optimize resource allocation.
- Monitor project costs to ensure adherence to budget and identify areas for cost optimization.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of broad financial and construction experience with a General or Trade Contractor.
- Strong organizational skills, communication abilities, and capacity for self-direction to effectively manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in accounting software, Procore and Microsoft Office Suite to leverage technology for efficiency.
- Experience with cost-plus contracts and large-scale infrastructure projects to navigate complex financial scenarios.
- Knowledge of construction industry accounting practices and regulations to ensure compliance.
