Job Title: Director, Enterprise Data Governance

About the Role

The Director of Enterprise Data Governance will provide strategic leadership and direction for comprehensive, enterprise-wide data governance to support Metrolinx's organizational objectives, priorities, and mandate. This role will report to the Vice President, Strategy and Centers of Excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement guidelines, processes, and policies for data governance projects/initiatives, including data quality, metadata management, and open data.
  • Direct and support evidence-based planning and feasibility studies, procurements, and business cases that inform data governance activities/projects.
  • Develop strategies and frameworks related to data governance and open data, including required governance structures, funding, resources, and infrastructure.
  • Lead and oversee the development of agreements, joint work, and project plans.
  • Direct negotiations and establish collaborative and constructive working relationships with internal stakeholders, including I&IT and other information governance functions.
  • Deliver strategic advice, expertise, and recommendations to senior leaders on data governance information, options, and alternatives.
  • Develop and monitor plans to ensure compliance with provincial policies, directives, and legislation.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships and collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to advance data governance initiatives.
  • Guide the development and adaptation of industry best practices for data governance to ensure the delivery of high-quality and innovative analytical insights and project initiatives.
Requirements
  • Completion of a degree in Planning, Economics, Business, Administration, Engineering, Public Administration, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated years of progressively more responsible experience in leading corporate projects and strategy or a related field, including leading a team of professionals, preferably in the public sector.
  • Valid Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) certification or comparable professional designation is an asset.
  • Senior leadership experience in data governance within a multi-jurisdictional framework and multi-model framework.
  • Progressive experience managing and directing an operating unit through subordinate managers.
  • Interpersonal, negotiation, and oral/written/presentation skills.
  • Highly effective communication, motivational, relationship management, and partnership building skills.
