We are seeking a Senior Occupational Health Specialist to join our team at the City of Toronto. This is a full-time, hybrid position that offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.

Job Summary:

The Senior Occupational Health Specialist will be responsible for providing proactive disability and occupational health services to employees of the City of Toronto. The successful candidate will have expertise in interpreting medical and functional information and communicating this information within policy and legal bounds to various stakeholders.

This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and decision-making in handling complex sensitive situations. The ideal candidate will have excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate medical and functional assessments and interpret results to make recommendations where employee health issues impact work function.
  2. Refer and work closely with internal and external resources to ensure health assessments, treatment, and programs support maximum functional recovery of ill and injured employees.
  3. Provide consultation and collaborate with other People and Equity staff, managers, healthcare professionals, and union representatives to deliver effective integrated disability management.
  4. Display flexibility to meet situation needs while following policies, procedures, and guidelines; identify multiple cause-and-effect relationships in situations involving numerous options, diverse stakeholders, and large volumes of information.
  5. Assist in developing, assessing, and recommending compliance with corporate policies and procedures related to Employee Health & Wellness Services and Programs.
Requirements:
  1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in a health specialty or equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in Nursing (B.Sc.) with a specialty designation in Occupational Health Nursing is preferred.
  2. Considerable experience in and proven knowledge of disability management and occupational health theory and practice.
  3. Experience in interpreting medical and functional information and communicating this information within policy and legal bounds to various stakeholders.
  4. Experience in providing health surveillance programs, such as pre-placement assessments, would be an asset.
  5. Knowledge of pertinent legislation, e.g., Occupational Health and Safety, Human Rights, and Health Disciplines Act, with the ability to communicate its significance and relevancy to each situation.
  6. Ability to exercise good judgment and decision-making in handling complex sensitive situations, using tact and discernment, while upholding confidentiality.
  7. Ability to work independently, as well as with multi-disciplinary teams. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and union representatives.
  8. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  9. MS Office suite proficiency (Excel, MS Access, MS Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Salary:

$85,000 - $105,000 per year, depending on experience.
