Salary

$90,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits.

Job Description

  • We are looking for a highly skilled professional with a degree in Commerce, Economic Development, Marketing, or Business Administration, and at least five years of related experience.
  • As our ideal candidate, you will have a proven track record of developing economic gains in a community similar in scope.
  • You will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of Council-approved strategies or programs pertaining to Economic Development.
  • Your key responsibilities will include designing strategies to attract and retain leading-edge businesses and entrepreneurs aligned to the District's Official Community Plan and Strategic Plan.
  • You will oversee economic development plan delivery, schedules, and monitor work performance.
  • You will employ creative thinking and industry best practices to meet District objectives.
  • You will support the local business community with growth and retention strategies.
  • You will facilitate strategic investment into the community.
  • You will maintain a knowledge of land use practices pertaining to the District and applicable policy and bylaws.
  • You will work closely with the District's Real Estate Department, acting as the lead contact for commercial and industrial investment inquiries.
  • You will lead the development and provide oversight of the economic development budget.
  • You will prepare technical studies and reports and presentations for Council.
  • You will develop grant and contribution funding applications and administer funding.
  • You will prepare policy and recommendations for Council consideration.
  • You will lead Customer Relationship Management for the Economic Development department, adhering to District policy.
  • You will represent the community and District at regional, territorial, and national meetings.
  • You will liaise with industry, industry organizations, and representatives across all levels of government, to promote local economic development efforts and advocate for effective policy and investment.
  • You will collaborate with local, regional, provincial, national, and international organizations involved in facilitating economic development to enhance capacity within respective scopes of work.
  • You will develop partnerships to facilitate economic development.
  • You will facilitate existing business development; support local organizations and identify and foster business development opportunities.
  • You will ensure District policy is adhered to and carried out.
  • You will initiate contracts and agreements in consultation with procurement team.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • You must have a strong understanding of government-sponsored economic development initiatives and programs.
  • You must have knowledge of the Local Government Act and Community Charter.
  • You must have expertise in finance, accounting, project evaluation, marketing, and legal processes.
  • You must be proficient in government liaison skills, including understanding of and ability to work within the local government context.
  • You must have excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including business development relationships.
  • You must have demonstrated history in securing grant funding from government sources.
  • You must have enhanced research and analytical skills, including conducting and tracking economic, demographic, and market research.
  • You must have expertise in the development of plans and strategies.
  • You must be able to develop business cases and partnership opportunities, and possess strong relationship-building skills.
  • You must have advanced computer word processing skills and thorough knowledge of software, including digital manipulation and presentation tools and Microsoft Suite.
