ROLE OVERVIEW

The Pod Group is partnering with a leading community-based agency to place a compassionate and hands-on leader as the Director of Finance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Accounting

  • Provide strategic direction to the Finance and IT team.
  • Coordinate all activities within the Finance Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, payroll, special projects accounting, financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of month-end financial accounting duties and resulting reporting.
  • Lead the finance committee of the board of directors and participate in the monthly and annual room and board reconciliation, presenting reports, including Actual to Budget analysis, annual budget process, and Cash Flow preparation.
  • Manage the organization's investment portfolio.
  • Review and approve payroll, Group Benefits, Group RRSP, and T4s.

Capital Projects and Funding

  • Lead and execute the Request for Proposal process for capital projects.
  • Support the development of organizational proposals by determining financial impact and providing required financial information.
  • Ensure timely completion of individual funder reporting requirements.
  • Monitor accounts payable to ensure purchases and expenditures are within budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a not-for-profit or government-funded organization, with a finance management or executive leadership role.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting, or a related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • Knowledge of government and funder agency structures, procedures, and reporting.
  • Expert knowledge of financial planning, financial management, and accounting/financial reporting systems and procedures.
  • Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills for strategic and operational planning and policy recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Experience representing the agency with external contacts and providing advisory services to the CEO, Board of Directors, and committees.
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and aware of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Highly developed technical and analytical skills with strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
