Pathology Department Manager

Reporting to the Eastern Zone Operations Director of Laboratory Services, the Manager works with the Operations Director and the Eastern Zone Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (PLM) Director/Lab Services Medical Lead to facilitate daily administrative and clinical operations of the Department, ensuring delivery of high-quality, safe Pathology and Laboratory Medicine service.
The Manager is accountable for the effective operation of assigned areas of responsibility, working in a co-leadership relationship with the Eastern Zone PLM Medical Director/Lab Services Medical Lead for assigned areas/facilities.
The Manager exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative, working within the Mission, Vision, Policies, Procedures, and Strategic Directives of Nova Scotia Health, incorporating Core Competencies and Values into daily practice.
About You
- Graduate of an approved program in Medical Laboratory Technology, supplemented by additional formal management and/or leadership training.
- Master's Degree in a health-related discipline, health administration, business administration, or related subject, considered an asset.
- Current registration with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NSCMLT) required.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
- Minimum five years' recent relevant supervisory/managerial experience.
- Experience in a unionized environment, considered an asset.
- Progressive leadership and/or management experience.
- Experience and knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, email, and laboratory information systems (Meditech), required.
- Experience in staff and program development and evaluation.
- Experience in leading change.
- Possess knowledge of healthcare structures, environments, and services, as they relate to Pathology and Laboratory Medicine services.
- Advanced communication skills (listening, written, and oral).
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of the field of practice to inform strategy development and organizational planning.
- Well-developed organizational, networking, negotiation, and change management skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data, monitor quality and performance indicators, and benchmarks.
- Previous experience with LEAN workflow analysis and review, and previous experience with Failure Mode Effects and Analysis review, considered an asset.
Hours
- Permanent, Full-Time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly.
Compensation and Incentives
$57.05 Hourly.
Successful candidates may be eligible for Nova Scotia Health's benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
