About the Role

The successful candidate will assist pharmacists in maintaining federal, provincial, and local laws, accrediting body standards, and policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include processing prescriptions in prescription software, preparing medication compounding sheets, programming infusion pumps, and assisting with tasks within scope to ensure smooth operations of the pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in entering prescriptions into the prescription software (Kroll), and filling/billing such prescriptions.
  • Schedule patients for repeat medications.
  • Prepare compounding sheets for the preparation of medication.
  • Program infusion pumps for medication delivery and prepare other devices.
  • Assist pharmacists in the preparation and labeling of medications as allowed by law.
  • Receive and transcribe verbal prescriptions from prescribers, ensuring prescription completeness, and provide prescription transfers.
  • Package and dispense prescription medications after a pharmacist has reviewed them.
  • Maintain pharmacy records, including filing and documenting required information on dispensing records.
  • Clean work areas routinely in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Document activities according to policies and procedures, using required paperwork (logs).
  • Participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities, education programs, and department/branch meetings.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate/Diploma from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Registered with the College of Pharmacists and in good standing.
  • Experience in a busy community pharmacy setting or specialty pharmacy setting is preferred.
  • Organized and disciplined; basic computer skills.
