Senior Optical Systems Architect

Ciena is committed to fostering a culture that prioritizes individual growth, wellbeing, and belonging. As a Senior Optical Systems Architect, you will play a key role in defining the overall photonic system features and architectures, and the control strategies to operate it.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Architect optical solutions, including new hardware configurations and/or features that provide customers improved functionality, robustness, ease of use, and optical performance.
  • Author the Product Specification Agreement, detailing high-level requirements of new features or architecture for other teams to derive their own detailed implementation details.
  • Generate creative ideas and solutions, and trade off acceptable solutions versus complexity.
  • Assist with complex and/or urgent field issues escalated from the support organization.
  • Mentor junior team members.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor, Masters, or PhD in a relevant engineering or physics degree.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant industrial experience.
  • Understanding of optical link budgeting and application to new designs.
  • Familiarity with YANG data model structures and NBI.
  • Knowledge of network planning and/or optical planning tools is an asset.
  • Knowledge of control loop design is an asset.
