As a Research Fellow in Precision Mental Health at the University of Alberta, you will play a key role in advancing our understanding of mental health disorders and developing innovative solutions to improve treatment outcomes.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Psychiatry. The successful candidate will contribute to a range of projects focused on applying advanced statistical, AI, and ML techniques to large populational health data. Our aim is to improve health outcomes and facilitate evidence-based decision making about mental and substance use disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research that applies advanced statistical, AI, and ML techniques to large populational health data
  • Participate in the development and implementation of AI and ML models for predicting mental and substance use disorders and associated health and economical outcomes
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including clinicians, health service providers, policymakers, and individuals with lived experience
  • Develop and participate in preparation of research grant proposals
  • Assist in the supervision and training of other personnel, including technologists, graduate students, and lab members

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or MD/PhD) in relevant disciplines, such as computer science, mathematics, neuroscience, physics, psychiatry, psychology, or statistics
  • Clinical or health research experience and strong coding or analytical skills
  • Fluency in English and IELTS scores (if applicable)
  • Previous experience in structured and/or unstructured large-scale health data, vision for future precision and personalized mental health, strong scientific writing and communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
