Salary
This locum opportunity offers fee-for-service compensation through MSP, as well as additional funding through the Medical On-call Availability Program (MOCAP) and Rural Emergency Enhancement Fee (REEF). Candidates may be eligible for rural program funding, subject to Ministry of Health approval.
Job Description
We are seeking two to three locum physicians to work in our Squamish General Hospital Emergency Department (SGH ED). The positions will involve a mix of weekend, daytime, and night shifts, with opportunities to pick up additional shifts. As an emergency physician, you will provide high-quality care to patients and cross-cover the acute medical inpatient unit and an adjoining long-term care facility for emergency issues.
The SGH ED services a population of 24,000 and has approximately 20,000 visits per year. Our department has 13 beds and provides lab, x-ray, and ultrasound services on site, with specialist consultation and CT available at Lions Gate Hospital. We are a level 5 rural trauma center, with no general surgery or internal medicine available on site. Anesthesia backup is available 24 hours a day.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC
- Completion of the Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP) program
- Experience in emergency medicine, either in a similar setting or through additional training such as the CCFP EM program or FRCP
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PAL), and Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) certification
