About the Role

Magil Construction is seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Specialist to join our team in Mississauga. As a key member of our dynamic team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and consultation on health, safety, and environmental concerns at all projects in Ontario.
  • Enforce health and safety programs, policies, and procedures with all personnel on the project, including subcontractors and visitors.
  • Develop and implement site-specific safety practices that comply with legislative requirements.
  • Investigate all near misses, incidents, and accidents at worksites.
  • Onboard new employees, contractors, and sub-trades, reviewing safety procedures and instructions before work commences.
  • Support the HSE Manager in collecting and tracking safety-related documentation and metrics.
  • Assist with health and safety inspections, audits, and reports for various worksites.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Identify hazards on site and report to supervisors, ensuring follow-up to correct hazards.
  • Facilitate safety meetings to discuss hazards, Ministry of Labour reports, and non-compliance.
  • Support the creation of health and safety strategies and new initiatives.
  • Assist with facilitating required health and safety training for all employees.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar position.
  • Strong knowledge of provincial safety regulations and worker's compensation legislation.
  • Knowledge of the Construction industry and equipment used.
  • Experience in field auditing and investigating incidents.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle stress and resolve conflicts.
