Job Summary

The Medical Office Assistant is a vital member of the Fraser Health team, providing exceptional support to our healthcare professionals and patients. As a key contributor to our clinical operations, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality reception and clerical services, while also assisting with data entry and other administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional reception services, including handling telephone inquiries, scheduling appointments, and arranging patient referrals.
  • Perform assigned clerical tasks, including typing, copying, assembling, and maintaining files and charts, as well as transcribing patient notes, correspondence, and reports.
  • Enter patient registration and MSP billing information into the Teleplan System.
  • Notify the Supervisor of outstanding aged and rejected claims, MSP Remittances, and Adjustments.
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms for patient visits, including cleaning and setting up equipment.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and ensure adequate resources are available.
  • Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with clinic procedures, such as examination room preparation and labstick urine testing.
  • Clean and package small surgical instruments according to standard protocols.
  • Receive payments from patients and code payments into the cash receipts journal.
  • Assist with ordering, maintaining, receiving, and checking supplies, equipment, and reference materials.
  • Participate in the orientation of new staff and students, and maintain manuals.
  • Liaise with healthcare and social service organizations, as well as general practitioners' offices, to provide program-related information.
  • Represent the Centre at meetings to promote the program and share information.
  • Report unusual occurrences and risk management issues.
  • Participate on committees and attend meetings as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Certificate from a recognized Medical Office Assistant program.
  • One year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Ability to type 40 wpm.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
