Registered Nurse

This position is a key member of our care team, responsible for coordinating and supporting daily care delivery. The Registered Nurse will work closely with the Director of Care to ensure that residents receive high-quality, individualized care that promotes their dignity and independence.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure that quality and individualized resident-focused care is provided, and resident rights are observed.
- Support LPN Team Leaders in reviewing and updating care plans as required, and provide clinical decision-making support to the care team.
- Coordinate resident care with families, other departments, and community agencies, and liaise with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure that equipment and supplies are stored and maintained according to policy and procedures.
- Report unsafe or faulty equipment to the appropriate manager.
- Maintain documents according to established standards, regulations, policies, and procedures, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
- Ensure that practice related to risk management is maintained, including infection control, medication safety, care quality, and staff safety.
- Act as a First Aid Attendant when on duty, and ensure that any injured staff completes the required documentation.
- Provide guidance and assistance to LPNs in completing quarterly and annual RAI assessments.
- Be responsible for facility wound management, assisting LPNs with assessment, treatment, and documentation as needed.
- Support LPNs in their role as coach/mentor for RCA staff in providing care and completing documentation.
- In the absence of the ADOC, review candidates for admission, ensuring that their needs can be met by the facility.
- Work collaboratively with the Social Worker, ADOC, and other team members to facilitate admissions, following facility policies and protocols.
- Perform facility audits and correlate data to submit to the DOC or designate.
- Participate in unit/department orientation of new employees, and act as a mentor and coach for clinical staff.
- Observe and assess the clinical practice of individual staff, and provide one-to-one practice support as needed.
- Actively participate in the delivery of clinical education and/or training, both in formal and spontaneous settings.
- Provide educational material on procedures to clinical staff, and demonstrate techniques.
- Identify and follow up on opportunities for continuous quality improvement, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Actively participate in facility programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of facility policies and procedures, particularly those concerning the safe delivery of quality care and emergency procedures.
- Attend Care Conferences in the absence of the ADOC.
- Promote the use of research to support clinical practice, by reviewing current literature and attending educational sessions.
- Encourage and adhere to a holistic philosophy of wellness, recognizing that each individual is capable of making decisions about their life.
- Fulfill clinical on-call duties as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Holds a current practicing license with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Successful annual RAI competency testing.
- Additional training and previous experience in the care of the frail elderly and physically and mentally handicapped persons.
- Valid OFA2 certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in the English language.
- Recent related clinical practice experience within the last five years.
- All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
