Staff Solicitor

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Solicitor to join our team at Collage HR. As a Staff Solicitor, you will play a critical role in providing legal services to Indigenous clients facing criminal charges and involved in MCFD proceedings.
Key Responsibilities:- Represent Indigenous clients in criminal and family law matters, with a focus on reducing incarceration rates and promoting cultural safety.
- Work collaboratively with Indigenous communities, local agencies, and government organizations to ensure access to culturally safe and Indigenized programs and services.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous communities, employees, and stakeholders, including service providers, police, and crown agencies.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior lawyers, articling students, and law school students as assigned.
- Stay up-to-date with legal developments, policies, and procedures, and apply this knowledge to provide high-quality legal services.
- Membership or eligibility for membership of the Law Society of British Columbia.
- Experience in criminal, family, child protection, poverty law, and immigration law.
- Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, including the Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and Gladue principles.
- Knowledge of the Child Family and Community Services Act and Bill C-92 – An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families.
- Ability to synthesize complex legal problems and propose creative solutions.
