Nordex Group, a global leader in the wind energy industry, is seeking a highly skilled Global Grid Integration Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Global Nordex Engineering Grid Integration group, you will play a vital role in supporting business in North America.



Job Summary

As a Global Grid Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the Project's interconnection process from application to commissioning, including dynamic model analysis and model tune-ups for interconnection studies and compliance with reliability standards.



Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies to support business in North America, collaborating closely with the Global Engineering Electrical Grid Integration group.
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant ISO codes and requirements related to reliability standards, project interconnection, and dynamic models.
  • Assess ISO grid code compliance based on the existing product portfolio and provide guidance on meeting respective code and interconnection process requirements.
  • Lead conversations with project stakeholders regarding project application data (tech specs, forms, dynamic models), interconnection process (planning, studies), and commissioning (plant test, commissioning reports).
  • Support project owners during the interconnection process, coordinating internal support from Global Engineering and tracking required data (tech specs, forms, dynamic models, test reports).
  • Conduct simulations with dynamic models (PSS/e, TSAT, PSCAD) representing wind turbine generators and plant controllers, including Balance of Plant components to meet reliability standards, ISO's code, or demonstrate model quality.
  • Update, test, and verify models after modifications to on-site control parameters or software changes (turbines/plant controller), including managing updates for quality assurance documents required by ISOs.
  • Assist the Grid Integration and Control groups at Global Engineering in developing dynamic compliant models (PSS/e, TSAT, and PSCAD), configured with hardware and software for accurate reflection of settings in turbines and plant controllers, including associated documents for quality assurance and ISO requirements.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical power engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Master's degree in Power Electronics highly desirable.
  • 5+ years of experience in renewable or traditional energy development, or transmission planning.
  • Experience with HV and transmission system planning, especially project interconnection processes.
  • Experience with dynamic model analysis software (PSCAD, PSS/e, TSAT, EMTP-RV).
  • Ability and willingness to travel (20% typical).
  • Broad knowledge and familiarity with NERC reliability standards and representative ISO codes in North America (ERCOT, MISO, WECC, SPP, NY ISO, CAISO, NE ISO, NSPI, AESO, SaskPower, Hydro Quebec).
  • Above-average expertise using software languages for dynamic model analysis (PSCAD, PSS/e, TSAT, EMTP-RV) for studying power systems integration.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex issues in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical thinking.
  • Clear and concise technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Good command of English as primary language. Other languages a plus (German, Spanish).
